Our animals
Each dog, cat, donkey or horse rescued at Mashala Shelter carries a heartbreaking story of abuse, neglect, or betrayal.
In Lebanon, many still consider dogs “filthy” and unworthy of being in homes. They are often left outside, mistreated, or even killed. In villages and mountain areas, hungry stray dogs who steal chickens to survive are beaten or poisoned. Some municipalities still resort to poisoning or shooting dogs to get rid of them. The cruelty is unimaginable.
Houssein is the one on the ground - rescuing the dogs, rushing them to the vet, and caring for them at the shelter. He works tirelessly, day and night, to save as many lives as he can. The dogs arrive broken - physically and emotionally - and he does his best to heal them and give them a second chance.
Many are shot at, like sweet Nala, who was shot in the face and miraculously survived. Others lose their legs and become tripods, yet they still find a way to trust again. Pregnant mothers often arrive and give birth at the shelter, bringing more puppies who need love and care. Some are sick and can be saved, others sadly cannot.
It truly takes a strong heart to face this every day. Around 200 dogs currently rely on the shelter for food, medical care, and safety.
💛 Every act of kindness matters. Whether by donating, sponsoring, fostering, or simply spreading the word, you can help Houssein continue saving lives. Together, we can give these innocent souls the love and protection they have always deserved.
