Houssein Hamze is the founder of Mashala Shelter, which is currently home to more than 300 dogs. He's been doing this work since 2006, but with his region on the brink of war, his job just got much more difficult. The Lebanese government estimates nearly a million people have been displaced by the recent uptick in airstrikes by Israel, with over 2,000 dead in the past few weeks, and many have fled on foot, with no way to take their pets along. Not only has Houssein refused to abandon the animals in his care, he's also risking his life driving around to look for strays in need of food and shelter. "As long as I can reach the dogs and leave them food and water, I will not leave," he told the Associated Press. "I have a responsibility. I can't leave them." 14/10 and may they all be safe soon
